Costs in the event of default
If you pay late, you must pay default interest. The default interest rate is adjusted twice a year. You can find the current default interest rate here: Act relating to Interest on Overdue Payments etc. (Norwegian)
You must also pay reminder fees:
| Reminder/debt collection notice | NOK 38 |
| Demand for payment/notice of enforcement proceedings | NOK 113 |
The applicable rates can be found here: Regulations relating to the Debt Collection Act etc. (Norwegian)
In cases of serious default, substantial additional costs may be incurred, particularly if legal action is required to recover the amount owed. Fees for legal action are calculated on the basis of the court fee rate (R), which is adjusted annually.
Updated rates can be found here: Act relating to Court Fees (Norwegian)
You can also read more about the different court fees on the Norwegian Courts’ website (Norwegian).
If a forced sale of the property is carried out, the Housing Bank will add a fee to cover its own costs, equivalent to 2 × R. This currently amounts to NOK 2,690.
