What the quote must include
When you apply for a grant for age-friendly home upgrades, you must include an itemised quote from a contractor. Here you can find out what the quote must include.
The quote must provide enough detail for the Housing Bank to see what work will be carried out and how much it will cost. We use the quote to assess whether the work meets the requirements for the grant.
The quote must
- describe the work that will be carried out
- cover the same improvements that you select in your grant application
- show what is included in the price, such as materials, labour and work carried out by subcontractors such as plumbers or electricians
- show the cost of the work for which you are applying for a grant, so that these costs can be distinguished from the cost of other work
If the work for which you are applying for a grant is part of a larger project, the quote must clearly show which work and costs relate to the grant. For example, if you are renovating your entire bathroom but are only applying for a grant for certain improvements that will make the bathroom more accessible, the work and costs relating to these improvements must be shown separately from the rest of the renovation.
Before you get a quote
Step 1: Decide what you want to do
- Find out which improvements could make your home more accessible and suitable for you to continue living in as you get older.
- Describe the work you want to have done. Drawings or photos can make it easier for the contractor to understand what you would like a quote for.
- If you need help deciding which improvements may be suitable, you can contact the occupational therapy service in your municipality.
- If the improvements require a building permit under the Planning and Building Act, you must also find out which requirements apply. The building authorities in your municipality can help you with this.
Step 2: Get quotes from contractors
We recommend getting quotes from several contractors so that you can compare prices and what is included.
When asking for a quote, you must
- describe the work you want to have done as clearly and specifically as possible
- ask for an itemised quote that meets the requirements above
- ask the contractor to clearly specify materials, labour and any subcontractors
- check that the company is registered in the Brønnøysund Registers
Step 3: Agree on the price and how the work will be carried out
Before choosing a contractor, you should make sure you understand what is included in the price and how any additional costs will be handled.
You should also agree on
- when the work will start and when it will be completed
- when and how you will pay
- who will be responsible for managing the building work, if applicable
- who will be responsible for clearing up after the work
For larger projects, you should enter into a written contract with the contractor.
