About housing allowance
Housing allowance is a government-financed support scheme for partial coverage of housing expenses for households with low income.
The purpose of the scheme is to help households with low income and high housing expenses to obtain, and remain in, secure housing of a good .
The Housing Bank and municipalities work together to provide housing allowances. The housing allowance office in your municipality is responsible for handling applications and general enquiries about the scheme. Contact your local municipality for more information or for help with your application. There is a housing allowance office in each municipality. Generally it is at the NAV office, at the municipal service centre or at the social services office. In Oslo, each city district has an office that provides these services.
