The Norwegian State Housing Bank has tasks and responsibilities on a wide range of subjects, including urban redevelopment, building design, nursery schools and residential care homes.

Urban redevelopment
The Norwegian State Housing Bank is involved in a wide range of improvement and urban development projects on a broad regional basis, from smaller projects to more holistic development and rehabilitation programmes.
Area boost
The Norwegian State Housing Bank (NSHB) uses an area boost approach to try to contribute to improved living conditions in defined geographic areas with special social and environmental challenges.
Building design
The Norwegian State Housing Bank (NSHB) is responsible for promoting good building design for all. This is an important factor in urban redevelopment.
Residential care homes
The Norwegian State Housing Bank provides investment grants for the building of residential care homes and nursing homes.
Nursery schools
The Norwegian State Housing Bank (NSHB) grants loans in order to build new nursery schools for children, and for rehabilitating older nursery schools. The local municipality must endorse the project.
International work
The Housing Bank is the institution in Norway with the broadest international expertise on settlement issues.
